The Tutorial System exists as a direct result of the philosophy underlying PACT Educational Trust schools that affirms parents to be the first educators of their children.
The tutor takes a direct and personal interest in each child’s character development and regularly shares this with parents. Parent / tutor meetings are held each term, or whenever necessary, in order to offer support.
During school years, a child’s character will largely be formed by their approach to their school work. The tutor helps each child formulate a personal target to help them, for example, improve an aspect of their study or of family life.
1. Character Development
The tutor aims to use every opportunity to encourage the pupil to develop their character, in conjunction with the Character Development Programme in place at Oliver House.
2. Moral and Spiritual Topics
Whether parents and children are of the Catholic faith, or hold other beliefs, we work together towards firm moral principles.
3. Social Development
We aim to foster an attitude of service, as we recognise that a generous and compassionate contribution to the wider society is important.
• See situations objectively
• View crises positively
• Focus on the big issues
• Plan ahead
• Talk more with their spouse and their children
• Reflect on the importance of example
• Reflect on personal virtue
An essential key to full personal development lies in having personalised goals. These goals need to be appropriate, easy to remember, specific, achievable and able to be evaluated.
