Oliver House pupils were busy preparing their own healthy packed lunches to bring to school for a competition held on Wednesday 27 June. The Healthy Packed Lunch Competition was to be judged by a professional chef and nutritionist who were invited to school to meet the children and discuss their creations.
Children learned about food, nutrition and health as they were tasked with preparing their own healthy packed lunch, they presented these to the distinguished culinary guests. Suzanne from Suzanne James Ltd, executive chef for her own catering company and the inspiration behind The Dulwich Supper Club, was joined by her colleague Natalia Pereiro, a chef and nutritionist who both deliberated and cogitated to judge the entries and award the prizes.
They visited each class from Year 3 to Year 6, meeting and discussing the lunches with each child. Both were impressed by the variety, presentation skills and knowledge demonstrated by the children about nutrition and they found it very difficult to select winners from such a high standard. However, the final results were: Year 3 – Maisie, Year 4 – Daniel, Year 5 Martha, Year 6 – Emanuella who all received prizes presented by the chefs during assembly. Emanuella also won the overall winning place and received a book and goody bag. Well done to all the children taking part.
