Headmaster's Welcome
Welcome to the Oliver House website! I hope that by browsing our site you will get a sense of what our school is like and what we are trying to achieve.
At the heart of this school is a desire to work together with parents to help their children develop their characters so that they will later become men and women of integrity who live their lives according to noble principles. We aim to help them acquire virtues such as sincerity, generosity, a love of learning, respect for others and good judgement so that they will be able to use their freedom responsibly in later life.
This emphasis on character development is inseparable from our Catholic ethos which ensures that virtue does not remain at the level of the cold and mechanical but is always animated by love of God and our neighbour. Our aim is to help form young men and women with the desire to serve joyfully, as our motto proclaims.
Although Oliver House is academically non-selective, academic standards are high and this, I believe, owes much to our emphasis on character as well as our close relationship with parents. Virtues are empowering qualities that enable a child to become the best person he or she can become, and this applies to all areas of a child's life: academic, sporting and musical as well as moral and social.
It is impossible to convey fully the feel of Oliver House via a website and so, if you are interested in sending your son or daughter here, I would warmly encourage you to book a visit. If you do, I am sure that you will be struck by the happy and purposeful atmosphere that pervades the whole school community.
